THE GAMES INDUSTRY

THE FASTEST GROWING MEDIA INDUSTRY IN THE WORLD

A video game is an electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. The electronic systems and devices used to play video games are known as platforms. These platforms can range from dedicated gaming consoles, PC, mobile and smart devices.

The video game industry first joined the mainstream in 1970’s when dedicated arcade machines and the first gaming consoles were introduced to the general public. Video games have since gone become a significant artform, a cultural phenomenon and a massive globally represented business sector.

The modern games industry is highly diverse, profitable and fast paced and is driven by progressive ongoing shifts in technology and large scale growth in consumer Internet, mobile, social network and smart device adoption.

Whilst we still have arcade and gaming consoles such as the, Xbox PlayStation and Wii in hundreds of millions of homes around the world these are only a few of the platforms available to play games.

Facebook the social network giant has quickly become the largest single platform to play games in the world. 50% of its 800 million + active users use the social network platform to play games

This is nothing compared to the 5.6 billion mobile phones. An estimated 4 billion smart phones and 380 million tablet computers are predicted to be in use by 2015. 50% of all software downloaded for these devices are games. Smart devivces such as tablet computers, phones and TV's will become the dominant game platforms of the future.
